Samuel Richard Peale, born September 20, 1830, Hughesville, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania; son of Doctor John W. and Martha Washington Sturgeon Peale; Dickinson College, Carlisle, Pennsylvania, 1850; admitted, Northumberland County bar; land, railroad attorney; married, Harriet Frances Alter, 1857, children, Rembrandt Peale, John Wesley Peale, Frank Dixon Peale, Harriet Alter Peale Towne, Martha Sturgeon Peale, Elizabeth Hale “Bessie” Peale; elected, Democrat, Pennsylvania State Senate, 1877-1878; solicitor, Beech Creek Railroad, 1882-1895; engaged, bituminous coal fields; died, August 2, 1910 (aged 79), sustained four ribs fractured, internal injuries, shock, horseback riding, Lock Haven, Clinton County, Pennsylvania; interment, Highland Cemetery, Lock Haven, Clinton County, Pennsylvania.
