Early Life:

 Martin Luther McQuown, born January 18, 1852, Marchand, Indiana County, Pennsylvania; son of William and Margaret Ann Shields McQuown moved to New Washington. Clearfield County, followed farming and lumbering, 1867; New Washington Academy, during summers, 1871 and 1872; Curwensville Normal School during summer sessions, 1874 and 1875; teacher, public schools, 1871-1878; married, Virginia Flegal McQuown, 1878, children, Alice McQuown Bartles, Mary McQuown Ray, John Flegal McQuown; elected, superintendent, public schools, Clearfield County, 1878-1884; studied law, Murray and Gordon, Clearfield, admitted, Clearfield County bar, 1884; elected, chairman, Republican Clearfield County Committee, 1890-1895; purchased, Raftsman's Journal, Clearfield County, from S. J. Row and Son, 1890; elected, Republican, Pennsylvania State Senate, 1895-1898; delegate, Republican National Convention, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, 1900; died, July 24, 1929 (aged 76), Seattle, King County, Washington; interment, Hillcrest Cemetery, Clearfield, Clearfield County, Pennsylvania.
