Early Career:

William Henry Hyde, born May 27, 1849, Ridgway, Elk County, Pennsylvania; son of Joseph Smith and Jane Gillis Hyde; attended, Ridgway, Pennsylvania public schools until 1860; Painesville, Ohio public schools until 1865; attended, Lewisburg University (now Bucknell) for one term; lumber and mercantile business career, Ridgway, Pennsylvania; establishing the firm of J.S. and W.H. Hyde; later, Hall, Kaul, and Hyde Company; later associated with the Hyde-Murphy, Hyde and Thayer, Hyde and Redding, and Hall, Gardner companies; president, Clarion River Railway Company, Clarion River Gas Company, Ridgway Light and Heat Company; engaged, banking business, Ridgway and Brockwayville, Pennsylvania; considerable real estate portfolio, timberland, four sawmills; president, Clarion River Railway, 1891-1899; elected, Pennsylvania State Senate, Special Election, November 7, 1893- resigned, reelected, November 6 , 1894-1898; married, Elizabeth "Lizzie" M. Kime Hyde, son, Harry Ross Hyde; died, August 12, 1899 (aged 50), Ridgway, Elk County, Pennsylvania; interment, Pine Grove Cemetery, Ridgway, Elk County, Pennsylvania.
