Early Life: 

Charles Craven Sullivan, Jr., born March 10, 1807, family home, Butler County, Pennsylvania; son of Charles Craven Sullivan Sr. and Susannah Johnston Sullivan; Jefferson College, 1828, studied law, General William Ayers, admitted, Butler County bar, attorney, law practice, 1831-1860; elected, Whig, Pennsylvania State Senate, 19th district, 1841-1844; elected, Whig, Pennsylvania State Senate, 24th district, 1845-1846; president, North Western Railroad Company; married, Susan C. Seltzer Sullivan, two sons and three daughters; died, February 27, 1860 (aged 52) interment, Calvary Cemetery, Butler, Butler County, Pennsylvania.

Attorney. President, North Western Railroad Company.

Pennsylvania Politics:

Elected, Whig, Pennsylvania State Senate, 19th district, Allegheny and Butler Counties, 1841-1843.

Elected, Whig, Pennsylvania State Senate, 24th district, Allegheny and Butler Counties, 1844-1846.

Legacy: 

President, North Western Railroad Company, advocated for the establishment of a rail line through Butler.

From the Historical Marker Data Base: Sullivan County Formed March 15, 1847, from Lycoming County. Named for State Senator Charles C. Sullivan, who was active in securing its creation. Laporte, the county seat, was incorporated 1853. County is home of Eagles Mere (long a noted resort) and Worlds End State Park.
