Early Life:

William James McNichol, Sr., born May 1, 1885, Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania; son of James P. McNichol Sr. and Anastasia Agnes Fasy McNichol; public school education; LaSalle College, Philadelphia; paving contracting business; president, paving contracting business, 1918; married, Helen Hogan McNichol, 1910, son, William J McNichol, Jr.; elected, Republican, Pennsylvania State Senate, 1920-1926; died, December 5, 1926 (aged 41), in office of the Senate, kidney disease, suite, Chelsea Hotel, Atlantic City, Atlantic County, New Jersey; interment, Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, McNichol Mausoleum, Cheltenham Township, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. 

Early Career:

At an early age he engaged in the paving contracting business with father, James Patrick McNichol, Sr., D. J. McNichol Brothers, upon the death of his father, president, McNichol Paving and Construction Company, 1918.

Pennsylvania Politics:

Elected, Republican, Pennsylvania State Senate, 3rd district, Philadelphia (Part) County, 1919-1926; elected to fill the unexpired term of his father, James Patrick McNichol, Sr., reelected, 1920, 1924; committee assignments, Appropriations, Banks and Building and Loan Associations, City Passenger Railways, Congressional Apportionment (Chairman), Corporations, Elections, Insurance, Municipal Affairs, Public Health and Sanitation, Public Roads and Highways, Railroads; died, in office of the Senate.

Brother, Edward Joseph McNichol, head men's basketball coach, University of Pennsylvania, 1920–1930. His first Penn team finished the season with a 21–2 record and was retroactively named the national champion by the Helms Athletic Foundation. Record: 186–63 (.747).
