Private Cyrus Ressley Lantz born, August 26, 1842, Cornwall Township, Lebanon County, Pennsylvania; son of Tobias and Catharine Lantz; attended public schools; private, Civil War 1862-1863; (Annville Institute)  Lebanon Valley College; teacher, farmer, studied law, admitted, Lebanon bar, 1869; notary public; borough council; deputy Lebanon County treasurer, 2 years; elected, Lebanon County district attorney, 1871-1874; elected, Republican, Pennsylvania State Senate, 1881-1884; married, Mary A. Kauffman, daughter Lily Jane, son Henry K.; died, June 3, 1923 (aged 80), interment, Mount Lebanon Cemetery, Lebanon, Lebanon County, Pennsylvania.

Early Career:

Private, Company E, 127th Regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry, nine-month service, enlisted, August 13, 1862; guard duty Washington, D.C.; action, Fredericksburg and Chancellorsville; shot three times at the Stone wall at foot of Marye's Heights, Fredericksburg, Virginia; first time, shot through the cap, the second bullet struck him in the breast, hitting a pocket Bible which his sister gave him, which undoubtedly saved his life; third shot struck the lock of his gun and just grazed his fingers, mustered out, Harrisburg, May 29, 1863; captain, Company E, Eighth Regiment, National Guard, Pennsylvania, eight years.

Member, Sedgwick Post No. 42 Grand Army of the Republic (G.A.R.) commander, up until his death; served, Junior Vice Department Commander, Pennsylvania Department of the G.A.R., 1878; involved; organization of the Homestead Building and Savings Association, 1883; connected other public institutions, Lebanon Valley Fair Association, the Lebanon Mutual Fire Insurance Company, Hook and Ladder Company, president twenty years, Lebanon Ice Company, President, People's National Bank of Lebanon, 1898.

Notary public; borough council; deputy Lebanon County treasurer, 2 years; elected, Lebanon County district attorney, 1871-1874.
