John Kerlin, born 1794, Upper Chichester Township, Delaware County, Pennsylvania; son of Mathias and Sarah Kerlin; read law, admitted, Delaware County bar, 1814; attorney; married, Abby Louisa Engle Kerlin, 1830, son, Frederick Engle Kerlin; elected, Federalist, Pennsylvania State Senate, 1824-1828; elected, National Republican, Pennsylvania State Senate, 1828-1834; president, Bank of Delaware County, 1834-1841; director, Delaware Mutual Safety Insurance Company, 1837; chief surveyor, Reading Railroad Company, Philadelphia; died, May 19, 1847, (aged 54) attending a theatrical performance, Chester, Delaware County, Pennsylvania; interment, Chester Rural Cemetery, Chester, Delaware County, Pennsylvania.
