Homer James Humes (D50) Crawford County 1883-1886 

Early Life:

Homer James Humes, born September 29, 1844, farm, Woodcock, Crawford County, Pennsylvania; Waterford Academy; Edinboro Schools; Allegheny College, 1869; studied law, admitted to practice, Crawford County bar, 1871; engaged, at present in practice, attorney-at-law; married, Delia F. Lowry, 1874, (d.1905), son, E. Lowry Humes; chairman, Democratic Crawford County Committee, 1873-1874; elected, Democrat, Pennsylvania State Senate, 1883-1886; renominated, unsuccessful campaign Pennsylvania State Senate, 1886; resumed the practice of his profession; died, July 8, 1906 (aged 60), was thrown from a horse sustained a fracture of his right leg below the knee, thought to be doing nicely, when heart failure developed, death relieved his suffering, Meadville City Hospital, Meadville, Crawford County, Pennsylvania; interment Greendale Cemetery, Meadville, Crawford County, Pennsylvania. 

Early Career:

At four years of age, he was left fatherless by a stroke of lightning. At age nine, he went to live with an uncle, George Doctor of Cambridge Township. Waterford Academy; Edinboro Schools; Allegheny College, 1869. Entered the law office of W.R. Bole as a student, admitted, bar, 1871.

Chairman, Democratic Crawford County Committee, 1873-1874. 

Elected, Democrat, Pennsylvania State Senate, 50th district, Crawford County, defeated, Honorable A.B. Richmond; committee assignments, Accounts, Judiciary (Local), Library, New Counties and County Seats, Pensions and Gratuities, Vice and Immorality; renominated, unsuccessful campaign, Pennsylvania State Senate, 50th district, Crawford County, defeated by George Washington Delamater, 1886.
