Doctor Smith Fuller, born February 3, 1818, Connellsville, Fayette County, Pennsylvania; son of John and Harriet Smith Fuller; common school education; Washington College (now Washington and Jefferson) 1836; studied medicine, Doctor John Hasson, West Newton, Pennsylvania; attended lectures, Jefferson Medical College, Philadelphia; opened private practice, Uniontown, Pennsylvania; graduated, Jefferson Medical College, 1847; married first, Elvira Markle, 1839, (d. 1848), children, Doctor John M. Fuller, Harriet, Elizabeth Fuller; second, Jane Beggs, children, Doctor William B. Fuller, Frank M., Doctor Smith Fuller; delegate, Chicago Republican National Convention, 1860; elected, Republican, Pennsylvania State Senate, 1860-1863; unsuccessful campaign, United  State House of Representatives, 1864; died, March 14, 1892, (aged 74), Oak Grove Cemetery, South Union Township, Fayette County, Pennsylvania.

Delegate, Chicago Republican National Convention, 1860, that nominated Abraham Lincoln. 

Elected, Republican, Pennsylvania State Senate, 22nd district, Fayette and Westmoreland Counties, 1861-1863. 

Unsuccessful campaign, United State House of Representatives, 1864; defeated by, John L. Dawson, 16 votes.
