Henry Lewis Benner, Jr., born March 11, 1806, son of Henry L. Benner, Sr., and Mary Boyd Benner; engaged, banking, insurance; president, National Safety Fund and Trust Company, Philadelphia; married, Elizabeth Githens Dowdney, 1841, children, Doctor Henry Dowdney Benner, Henrietta Benner, William Benner; elected, Democrat, Pennsylvania State Senate, 1846-1848; paymaster, Major, United States Army, 1861-1862; died, April 26, 1862 (aged 56), Fort Monroe, Fort Monroe, Virginia; interment Woodlands Cemetery Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania.

Elected, Democrat, Pennsylvania State Senate, 2nd district, Philadelphia County, 1846-1848.  

Legacy:

During deployment from Washington District Columbia to Fortress Monroe, Virginia, aboard, Ocean Queen, Benner succumbed to “a stroke of apoplexy,” pronounced dead near Fort Monroe, Virginia, 6:30AM, Saturday April 26, 1862.
