William Drury (R21) Luzerne (Part) County 1901-1904

Early Life:

William Drury, born 1845, Bristol, Bristol Unitary Authority, Bristol, England; son of George and Ann Brown Drury; common school education; worked on a farm and at other work until seventeen years of age; then went to London and was employed in a large dry goods house; married Sarah Davis, 1869, children, Sarah, William, George, Hannah, John and Annie; emigrated, South Wales, 1871, settled in Pittston, Pennsylvania, entered the employ of J. L. Morgan, with whom he remained until April 1, 1885, to start in business for himself, has one of the largest grocery stores in Northern Pennsylvania; identified himself with the Republican party, but never took an active part in politics until June, 1900, when he was nominated for State Senator; elected, Republican, Pennsylvania State Senate, 1901-1904; president,  director, Union Savings and Trust Company, Pittston; died, March 14, 1913 (aged 67–68), sudden, unexpected death, running to catch a streetcar, Laurel Line Station, Scranton, Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania; interment, Pittston City Cemetery, Pittston, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania.
