Early Life:

Abraham Carpenter, born September 5, 1758, Lancaster County, Province of Pennsylvania, British Colonial America; son of John W. and Mary Ferree Carpenter; Revolutionary War veteran; practiced medicine, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, the only surgeon of his day to successfully perform an operation to remove stones in the bladder; practiced law; elected, Federalist, Pennsylvania State House of Representatives, 1790-1794; elected, Federalist, Pennsylvania State House of Representatives, 1795-1798; elected, Federalist, Pennsylvania State Senate 1799-1802; unsuccessful campaign, Pennsylvania State Senate, 1802; built, Spring Valley Sawmill, Paradise Township, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania; appointed, commissioners, Lancaster Trading Company, which later became, Lancaster Bank, 1814; married, Salome Smith, children, Susannah Carpenter, Salome VH Carpenter, Daniel Carpenter, Harriet Carpenter, Henry A. Carpenter, John Smith Carpenter, Matilda Carpenter, Mary Carpenter; died, March 4, 1815 (aged 56), Strasburg, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania; interment, Carpenters Graveyard, Paradise, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.
