Thompson, born December 7, 1845, Pottsville, Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania; son of Alexander Thompson and Isabella Penman; attended, Freeburg Academy; private, Company B, 129th Regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry, Civil War, 1862-1863; corporal, Company E, 39th Regiment, Pennsylvania Emergency Militia, Civil War 1863; corporal, Company G, 80th Regiment, 7th Pennsylvania Volunteer Cavalry, Civil War, 1864-1865; coal miner; proprietor, Snyder and Thompson, mercantile business; attorney, 1877-1924; elected, Republican, Pennsylvania House of Representatives, 1881-1884; not a candidate for reelection, 1884; elected, Republican, Pennsylvania State Senate, 1885-1892; died, July 23, 1924, Harrisburg, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania; interment, Cavalry United Methodist Cemetery, Wiconisco, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania.
