Early Life: 

Colonel Enoch D. Yutzy, born February 1, 1835, Elk Lick Township, Somerset County, Pennsylvania; son of Daniel and Anna Brenneman Yutzy;  common schools education; civil engineer, Mount Union College, Stark County, Ohio; surveyor, Somerset County; married, Nancy Scott, 1860, children, Elizabeth Taylor and Elmer Ellsworth Yutzy; colonel, wounded, Civil War, 1861-1865; read Law, admitted, Somerset Bar, 1865; engaged, railroad construction and management; elected, Republican, Pennsylvania State Senate, 1875-1878; died, September 30, 1894, Somerset, County Pennsylvania; Interment, Ursine Cemetery, Ursine, Somerset County Pennsylvania.  

Early Career:

Lieutenant Colonel, 54th Regiment Pennsylvania Infantry, enrolled September 4, 1861, age 25, Somerset, Somerset County Pennsylvania; mustered in, September 9, 1861, Captain, Harrisburg, Pennsylvania; discharged, January 5, 1865, 39 month 5 days; promoted, captain Company C on February 1, 1863 to major; wounded, July 23, 1864, Kernstown, Virginia.

Elected, Republican, Pennsylvania State Senate, 36th district, Bedford, Fulton and Somerset Counties, 1875-1878; committee assignments, Agriculture, Federal Relations, Pension and Gratuities and Military Affairs Committees.
