Brevet Major Hannibal Kelly Sloan, born September 4, 1838, Indiana, Indiana County, Pennsylvania, son of James M. Sloan of Indiana County; attended, Academy of Indiana; studied law, H.W. Weir, captain, Company B, 40th Regiment, 11th Pennsylvania Volunteer Reserves (1861-1864, Civil War); brevet major, United States Volunteers (1864-1865, Civil War); laborer; lawyer, Indiana bar, 1867; elected, Democrat, Pennsylvania House of Representatives, 1871 term; not a candidate, reelection 1872 term; elected, Democrat, Pennsylvania State Senate, 37th District Senator, 1889-1892; unsuccessful candidate, United States Congress (1894); married Loretta F. Sloan (Bonner); Died, August 10, 1894, Indiana, Indiana County, Pennsylvania; interment, Saints Simon and Jude Cemetery, Blairsville, Indiana County, Pennsylvania.

Enlisted, June 10, 1861, 2d Lieutenant, 40th Regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry; Company B, 11th Pennsylvania Reserves; promoted 1st Lieutenant, July 2, 1861; Captain, August 17, 1863; mustered out, with regiment, June 13, 1864. Saw action at Drainesville; Chickahominy; Mechanicsville; 2d Manassas; Antietam, Fredericksburg; Hanover and Gettysburg; the Wilderness, the Rapidan Campaign; Bristoe Station; and Richmond. Promoted, Brevet Major, March 13, 1865, United States Reserves.

Chief Marshal of the Indiana Fire Association.
