William Stewart, born September 10, 1810, Mercer, Mercer County, Pennsylvania; son of Robert Stewart; public school education; Jefferson College, Canonsburg, Pennsylvania; studied law; admitted Mercer County bar; attorney, commenced practice, Mercer, Pennsylvania; Pennsylvania State Senate; elected, Republican, United States House of Representatives, 1857-1861; resumed law  practice; died, October 17, 1876 (age 66 years, 37 days), Mercer, Mercer County, Pennsylvania; interment, Mercer Citizens Cemetery, Mercer, Mercer County, Pennsylvania.
