Charles Steele, born April 29, 1865, Port Carbon, Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania; son of Amos Kimble and Sarah A. Keiser Steele; moved to Sunbury, Northumberland County; public school education, Sunbury, Pennsylvania; Sunbury High School; engaged, wholesale manufacturing lumber business under William Whitmer, as bookkeeper, traveling representative, eventually becoming a member, 1890; treasurer, vice president, William Whitmer and Sons, 1896-1922; William Whitmer and Sons, became Whitmer-Steele Company; president, treasurer, Whitmer-Steele Company and South River Lumber Company, Incorporated; president, Northumberland National Bank, 1903; vice president, Lewisburg Trust and Safe Deposit Company, 1907-1923, president, 1923; member, president, Northumberland town council, 1893-1895; chief burgess of Northumberland, 1909-1914; board member, Susquehanna University, 1902-1951; alternate delegate, Republican National Convention, 1920; elected, Republican, Pennsylvania State Senate, 1923-1928; died, May 31, 1951 (aged 86), interment, Riverview Cemetery, Northumberland, Northumberland County, Pennsylvania.
