Born in Lancaster County in 1824; moved with his family to Ohio where he received his education; returned to Lancaster; studied law and joined the county bar in 1847; served as a member of the state House of Representatives, 1850-1851; the state Senate 1858-1860; attorney for the Pennsylvania Railroad; Major General of the Lancaster Militia; according to one source, served as an aide to General Kiem for six months in 1861 (however there is no record); returned to Lancaster and pursued the iron business; and died in 1864.
