Biography

1803 - 1858

Hon John A. Sangston was the son of taverner James Sangston and Elizabeth Sparks of Masontown, Fayette County, born in 1803.  He was sheriff of Fayette County, 1829 – 1832; pursued Merchandising; and was elected to the Senate of Pennsylvania, serving from 1834 to 1838.  He died near Walnut Hill in 1858.  The Senator married Rebecca McClelland of Uniontown.
