 John Alton Sangston, born 1803; son of James and Elizabeth Sparks Sangston; elected, sheriff of Fayette County, 1829-1832; elected, Pennsylvania State Senate, 1833-1838; married, Rebecca V. Mcclelland, children, Mary A. Sangston, Eliza Jane Sangston, William S. Sangston,Joseph M. Sangston, George W. Sangston, John A. Sangston; died, October 12, 1858 (aged 54–55), interment, Methodist Episcopal Cemetery, Masontown, Fayette County, Pennsylvania.

Pennsylvania Politics:

Elected, sheriff of Fayette County, 1829-1832.

Elected, Pennsylvania State Senate, 19th district, Fayette and Greene Counties, 1833-1838; Solomon G. Krepps died prior to the beginning of the 1833-1834 session. His seat was filled by John A. Sangston.
