John Nicholas Neeb, born March 19, 1851, Allegheny City, North Side, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania; son of William and Elisabeth Neeb; educated, private school, Mount Troy; Reserve Township public schools; Voeghtly’s United Evangelical Protestant Church School; Western University of Pennsylvania (University of Pittsburgh); left college in his junior year to work as a compositor for his father’s and uncle’s German newspaper, Freiheit’s Freund, eventually becoming managing editor, proprietor; charter, founding member, Pittsburgh Press Club, Pittsburgh Common Council, 1875-1877; appointment, board of managers, Governor Hoyt, Morganza, Pennsylvania Reform School; board of directors, secretary, Altenheim, Allegheny County; member, Allegheny County Republican Committee; member, famed military company, Duquesne Greys; never, married; elected, Republican, Pennsylvania State Senate, November 1891-1893; died, February 19, 1893 (aged 41), in office, interment, Voegtly Cemetery, Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania.
