Biography

Charles E. Mills, Athens, Bradford County, was born at Sheshequin, Bradford Co., Pa., Nov. 26, 1876, the son of Edward and Ann (Ames) Mills; educated in the public schools, went west to attend an Indian School, graduated from Everett High School; entered Stanford University and transferred to Cornell University, graduating LL. B. in 1898; admitted to the Bradford County and New York State Bar in 1899; justice of the Peace in Athens, 1901; served one term as district attorney of Bradford County, receiving note for his prosecution of a sensational murder trial.  He served in the state House of Representatives, 1908-1912; the state Senate, 1913-1916; returned to the practice of law in Bradford County, where he continued as a brilliant trial lawyer for three decades.  Mills served as Bradford County Republican Committee chair four years; solicitor for Sayre Borough; and secretary of the Athens Interstate Fair Association.  He married Katherine Fitzgerald of Athens in 1897.  The Hon. Charles Mills died January 3, 1954.
