Early Life: 

Verus Hope Metzger born March 25, 1859, Clinton Township, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania, son of the Honorable Johann Jacob and Endetta Metzger; educated, public,  Dickinson Seminary, Gettysburg College, 1878; studied law with his father, admitted, Lycoming, bar, April 1881; elected, Democrat, Lycoming County district attorney, 1883-1886; married Lulu Condradi, 1884, two children; elected, Democrat, Pennsylvania State Senate, 1887-1890; died, home, diabetes, May 28, 1891. (i)

Member, Company G, 12th Regiment, Pennsylvania National Guard

Pennsylvania Politics:

Elected, Democrat, Lycoming County, district attorney, 1883-1886.

Elected, Democrat, Pennsylvania State Senate, 24th district, Columbia, Montour, Lycoming and Sullivan Counties, 1887-1890, member, Banks, Federal Relations, Judiciary Local, and Retrenchment and Reform Committees.

Legacy:

When seated, Pennsylvania State Senate, January 4, 1887, youngest serving member.
