Gerrard Crane Brown, born Tower of London, England, (i) November 12, 1842, son of Benjamin Franklin Brown and Mary Sophia (Cops) Brown, Putnam County, New York; educated, Philips Academy, Andover, Massachusetts, Yale College, (1863); 1st Lieutenant (Civil War 1861), farmer, State Grange, elected Pennsylvania State Senate; married  Caroline Victoria Barcroft Brown, three children, Evalyn Woolverton Brown Gilbert, Benjamin Brown and Gerard C Brown; died July 20, 1899 (aged 56), home, Lower Windsor, York County, Pennsylvania, interment Canadochly Church Cemetery, York County, Pennsylvania,

Enlisted, 1st lieutenant, April 1861, Company G, 38th Regiment, New York State Volunteers, wounded July 1861, Bull Run, honorably discharged, September 1861. 

Moved, York, Pennsylvania, 1874; farming; Secretary, Lower Windsor Mutual Fire Insurance Company; lecturer, Pennsylvania State Grange, 1886-1888.
