Captain John Matheys (D3) Montgomery County 1831-1835
Early Life:
Captain John Matheys, born 1780; son of William and Mary Matheys; captain, 1st Brigade, 2nd Division, Pennsylvania Volunteers, twenty-five years; elected, Pennsylvania State Senate, 1832-1835; married, Amy Zell Matheys children, William Z. Mathey, Hannah Mathey, John Mathey, David Zell Mathys, Margaret Z. Mathey, Rachel Mathey, Anna Amy Mathey, Elizabeth (Eliza) Bean (Mathey); died, 1837 (aged 56–57), interment, Lower Merion Baptist Church Cemetery, Bryn Mawr, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania.
Early Career:
He purchased a 100-acre farm situated in Norristown, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, 1827 from Jacob Slough. Within his Will, he declared the farm to be sold after his death which was then purchased by Thomas Owen, father of Sarah W. Owen, who eventually married David Z. Matheys. Son, William Z. Matheys served as Captain and was said to have been a brilliant officer and the troop was in high command while under his comand which continued until 1839, David Z Matheys was the First Orderly Sergeant.
