James Mathers, Sr., born January 21, 1803, Fermanagh Township, Juniata County, Pennsylvania; son of Joseph and Eleanor Mathers; classical school, Reverend John Hutchison, Mifflintown, Pennsylvania; Jane Hutchinson Mathers, 1829 (d.1836) children, Joseph Hamilton Mathers, James Mathers; remarried, Amelia Evans Mathers, children, Margaret Ellen Mathers Atkinson, Louis E. Mathers, Orlando O. Mathers; died, elected, Whig, Pennsylvania State Senate, 1841-1842. died, October 5,1850 (aged 47), Peru Mills, Juniata County, Pennsylvania; interment Westminster Presbyterian Cemetery, Mifflintown, Juniata County, Pennsylvania.
