Early Life:

Christian Ley born February 20, 1762, Myerstown, Lebanon County, Province of Pennsylvania, British Colonial America; son of Michael and Eva Magdalena Ley; miller; organized, Tulpehocken Lutheran Church; captain Sixth Company, Dauphin County Militia's Fourth Battalion, 1792; unsuccessful campaign, Pennsylvania State House of Representatives, 1797; elected, Pennsylvania State House of Representatives, 1799-1802,  unsuccessful reelection, 1802; elected, Constitutionalist (Quid), Pennsylvania State Senate, filled vacancy, 1805-1806, unsuccessful reelection, 1806; unsuccessful campaigns, Pennsylvania State House of Representatives, 1808, 1811, 1812; unsuccessful campaign, Commissioner, Lebanon County, 1813; unsuccessful campaign, Pennsylvania State Senate,  1822; relocated, Borough of Pine Grove, Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania; married, Anna Catherine Koppenhoffer, children, Christian Jr., John and Catherine; died, October 13, 1831 (aged 70), intement, Union Cemetery, Myerstown, Lebanon County, Pennsylvania.

Early Career:

Captain, Sixth Company, Dauphin County Militia's Fourth Battalion, under Lieutenant-Colonel James Woods, Major George Bowman; formed in response to orders from the United States Congress to address the "encroachments of the European powers upon American rights." 1792.

Elected, Pennsylvania State House of Representatives, Lebanon and Dauphin Counties, 1799-1802; unsuccessful reelection, 1802.

Elected, Constitutionalist (Quid), 4th district, Pennsylvania State Senate, Berks and Dauphin Counties, 1805-1806; John Kean vacated his seat between sessions by accepting an appointment from the Governor; elected, replacement, unsuccessful reelection, 1806.
