Early Life:

Edwin M. Hummel, born April 5, 1856, Monroe Township, Snyder County, Pennsylvania, son of John Hummel and Hannah Deibert Hummel; public school education; Freeburg Academy; Missionary Institute (now Susquehanna University), of Selinsgrove, Pennsylvania; Duff's Business College, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, 1875; financial manager, J. Hummel and Company, manufacturers of and dealers in lumber, 1879, purchased the entire business 1884, which he still operates; developed oil lands in Butler County , Pennsylvania, 1885, still holds producing interests; appointed, Selinsgrove's town council, 1887-1888; declined, nomination Pennsylvania State Senate, 1888; elected, chief burgess, Selinsgrove, 1891; declined, nomination Pennsylvania State Senate, 1892; elected, Republican, Pennsylvania State Senate, 1897-1900; married, Emma L. Swartz Hummel, children, Anita Irene Hummel; died, January 15, 1935 (aged 78), fiftieth wedding anniversary, Crafton, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania; interment, Allegheny County Memorial Park, Allison Park, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania.
