Hummel and Company, manufacturers of and dealers in lumber, 1879, purchased the entire business 1884, which he still operates; developed oil lands in Butler County , Pennsylvania, 1885, still holds producing interests; appointed, Selinsgrove's town council, 1887-1888; declined, nomination Pennsylvania State Senate, 1888; elected, chief burgess, Selinsgrove, 1891; declined, nomination Pennsylvania State Senate, 1892; elected, Republican, Pennsylvania State Senate, 1897-1900; married, Emma L.
