Early Life: 

Private Evan Holben, born November 26, 1837, Pleasant Corner, Lynnville, Lehigh County, Pennsylvania; son of Jacob and Lydia Kocher Holben; attorney, admitted, prominent member, Lehigh County bar; private, Civil War, 1862-1863; elected, Democrat, Pennsylvania State Senate, 1877-1882; author, 1902; married, Ida Elizabeth Wright; died, May 16, 1918, Allentown, Lehigh County, Pennsylvania, interment, Union-West End Cemetery, Allentown, Lehigh County, Pennsylvania. Grand Army of the Republic marker on grave. 

Early Career:

Enlisted, Company D, 176th Regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry, private, November 8, 1862- nine month service; mustered out with company, August 8, 1863.
