Early Life:

Thomas Hoge, born March 7, 1808, Butler County, Pennsylvania; son of John and Mary Irwin Hoge; common school education; at the age of seventeen went to Cleveland, Ohio, remaining there several years; engaged, iron business, Mount Etna furnace; Slab furnace, Cranberry township, 1833; married Harriet Cross Hoge (d.1835) remarried, Eliza Jane Morrow Hoge, children, Mary Jane Hoge Hoover, Harriet Hoge Cooper; elected, Democrat, Pennsylvania State Senate, 19th District, 1853; elected, Democrat, Pennsylvania State Senate, 19th District, 1855; elected, Democrat, Pennsylvania State Senate, 26th District, 1863; elected, Democrat, Pennsylvania State Senate, 28th District, 1865; died, March 12, 1885 (aged, 77) Venango County, Pennsylvania; interment, Franklin Cemetery, Franklin, Venango County, Pennsylvania. 

Early Career:

Engaged, iron business, Mount Etna furnace; Slab furnace, Cranberry township, 1833 partnership, William Cross. Later would marry his daughter.
