Early Life:

Grant Stanley Herring, born May 19, 1862, Centreville, Columbia County, Pennsylvania; son of George Augenbach and Mary Agnes Hess Herring; Shenandoah public school education; Bloomsburg State Normal School; Lafayette College, 1883; studied law, joined Columbia bar, 1885; married, Emma Jane Jones Herring, children, Donald Grant Herring, Laura Douglas Herring, Mildred Herring; elected, Democrat, Pennsylvania State Senate, 1891-1894; delegate at large, Democratic National Convention, Chicago 1892; appointed collector of internal revenue, Twelfth District of Pennsylvania, 1894-1898; delegate, Democratic National Convention, Chicago 1896; appointed, Judge, Twenty-sixth Judicial, 1898-1899; resumed the practice of his profession, 1899; entered, law partnership, with Honorable S. P. Wolverton, Sunbury, Pennsylvania, 1907-1911; traveled to Europe, 1912; died, August 1, 1912 (aged 50), Berchtesgadener Land, Bavaria (Bayern), Germany; marker, Old Rosemont Cemetery, Bloomsburg, Columbia County, Pennsylvania; actual interment, Berchtesgaden, Bavaria, Germany. 

Early Career:

Studied law with E. R. Ikeler, Esquire, afterwards president judge, Twenty-sixth Judicial District of Pennsylvania, 1883. Joined Columbia bar, 1885. Formed a law partnership with Mr. Ikeler, under the firm name Ikeler and Herring. Opened own corporation law practice, has admission to the County, United States, State and District Supreme Courts. Solicitor, Fanners' National Bank, attorney, Philadelphia and Reading Railroad, Jackson and Woodin Manufacturing Company, Berwick.

Elected, Democrat, Pennsylvania State Senate, 24th district, Columbia, Lycoming, Montour and Sullivan Counties, 1891-1894; committee assignments, Federal Relations, Judicial Apportionment, Judiciary (General), Mines and Mining, Railroads.

Delegate at large, Democratic National Convention, Chicago, 1892. 

Appointed collector of internal revenue, Twelfth District of Pennsylvania, 1894-1898. 

Delegate, Democratic National Convention, Chicago, 1896.
