Legacy:
During deployment from Washington District Columbia to Fortress Monroe, Virginia, aboard, Ocean Queen, Benner succumbed to “a stroke of apoplexy,” pronounced dead near Fort Monroe, Virginia, 6:30AM, Saturday April 26, 1862.
