William Reid Crawford (R48) Venango and Warren Counties 1891-1894

Early Life:

William Reid Crawford, born June 28, 1827, Perry Township, Armstrong County, Pennsylvania; son of Ebenezar and Janette Grant Crawford; public school education; Jane Kerr, 1851, children, Zelia E. Crawford Gill, Jessie Benton Fremont Crawford McCalmont, John Kerr Crawford, Jane Crawford Kroehl; engaged farming up to 1853, went to the gold fields of California; returned, 1855, resumed farming and continued until 1860 when he engaged in the production of oil, his present occupation; served on General Wiley's staff, North Guards, as commissary, Sixteenth Regiment, 1860-1864; moved to Franklin, 1865; elected, mayor, city of Franklin, three times; elected sheriff of Venango County, 1886-1890; received the nomination for State Senator ten days before the election of November 4, 1890; elected, Republican, Pennsylvania State Senate, 48th district, Venango and Warren Counties, 1891-1894; member of the firm, Prentice, Crawford, Barbour and Company; died, July 9, 1905 (aged 80), Franklin, Venango County, Pennsylvania; interment, Franklin Cemetery, Franklin, Venango County, Pennsylvania.

Elected, mayor, city of Franklin, three times; elected sheriff of Venango County, 1886-1890.

Elected, Republican, Pennsylvania State Senate, 48th district, Venango and Warren Counties, 1891-1894; committee assignments, Appropriations, Canals and Inland Navigation, Centennial Affairs (Chairman), Constitutional Reform, Judicial Apportionment.
