Judge John Gloninger (Federalist) Berks and Dauphin Counties 1790-1792

Early Life: 

Judge John Gloninger, born September 19, 1758, Lebanon Township, Lancaster County, (now Lebanon County), Province of Pennsylvania, British Colonial America; son of Philip L. and Anna Barbara Schwab Gloninger; Reformed Church education; subaltern officer, Associators, Revolutionary War, later was in command of a battalion of militia; upon the organization of Dauphin County,  appointed, supreme executive council, lieutenant, May 6, 1785; elected, Pennsylvania Constitutional Convention, Dauphin County, 1789; Pennsylvania State House of Representatives, resigned before serving, 1790; elected, Federalist, Pennsylvania State Senate, 1790-1792; appointed, Governor Mifflin, justice of the peace, Dauphin County, September 8, 1790; commissioned, associate judge, August 17, 1791, upon the formation, Lebanon County, commissioned, September 11, 1813, one of the associate judges for that county; unsuccessful campaign, United States House of Representatives, 4th district, 1808; elected, Federalist, United States House of Representatives, Thirteenth Congress, March 4, 1813, resigned, August 2, 1813; appointed, associate judge, Lebanon County, 1813-1836; married, Catharine Orth, children, Philip Gloninger, John Gloninger, John W.
