COUNTIES: York
Harvey W. Haines of York County, was born in Middletown, Columbiana County, Ohio, October 11, 1838, to Charles H. and Barbara Funk Haines; moved to Windsor, York County in 1840; educated in the public schools and at Millersville State Normal school; taught school in Lancaster and York counties, also in Baltimore city; returned to York County in spring 1880 and pursued farming; was a delegate to the state Democratic Convention at Allentown, 1884 and 1888; also delegate at Scranton, 1890; held the office of township auditor one term, school director a number of terms; member of the House of Representatives, 1889 through 1891; elected to the Senate November 6, 1894. He married Mary Esther Leber, Feb. 16, 1871 in York, Pennsylvania. Senator Haines died in December 1925
