Bell; admitted, Huntingdon County bar, 1831; private law practice; pursued politics acquiring the title of “Colonel;” Deputy Attorney General of Huntingdon County; elected, Whig Pennsylvania State House of Representatives, 1853 unsuccessful reelection, 1853; unsuccessful campaign, Pennsylvania State House of Representatives, 1857; elected, Republican, Pennsylvania State Senate, 1861-1862; married, Eliza S. Swoope Wharton, children, Edward A. Wharton, Eliza S Wharton, Henry Swoope Wharton; died, June 3, 1862; (aged 56), at his Huntingdon boarding house, died while in office of the Senate, Huntingdon, Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania, interment, Riverview Cemetery, Huntingdon, Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania.
