Phillip “Phil” Price, Jr. (R36) Lancaster County 1979-1982

Early Life:

Phillip “Phil” Price, Jr., born, October 28, 1934, city of Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania; son of Philip Price, Sr. and Sarah Harrison Price; Saint Paul’s School; Harvard University; University of Pennsylvania Law School; attorney, father’s law firm, Dechert Price and Rhoades (now Dechert, LLP); public defender’s office; delegate, Republican National Convention, 1976; Pennsylvania State Senate, 1979-1982; married, Sarah Price, 1960, children Alexandra Aly Price, Emilie Price and Philip Price, III; died, February 1, 2023. Memorial service will be held in the spring.

Elected, Republican, Pennsylvania State Senate, 36th district, Lancaster County, 1979-1982.

Legacy:

Descendent, Civil War General George Gordon Meade, 12th United States President Zachary Taylor and Joseph Harrison, Jr. Joseph Harrison, Jr. who built, Saint Petersburg – Moscow Railway. Grandfather, Eli Kirk Price II, who was responsible for purchasing the Albert Laessle Billy goat sculpture, Rittenhouse Square.

Served, boards, Fairmount Park Conservancy, Association for Public Art, Civil War Museum of Philadelphia, Woodlands Cemetery, Woodlands Trust for Historic Preservation, Ludwick Foundation and Saint James School.

Followed a long family tradition of support for Fairmont Park which started with his great grandfather, Eli Kirk Price, responsible for securing the land for the park; grandfather, Eli Kirk Price II, was instrumental in the development, Benjamin Franklin Parkway, Philadelphia Museum of Art, father, Philip Price, Sr. served, Fairmount Park Commission.
